You don't get anything better with this version of Windows than you do with 98. It's slower in my opinion (my Pionex 500mhtz with 98/se works just as fast as my Dell 800mhtz with ME). I like Dells, I haven't a thing against them, though ME isn't as great as they wanted it to be. There's nothing really wrong with my system. I read several other reviews and found that people probably shouldn't try to Reinstall Me, i've heard several of my IT partners saying that Me doesn't like to be reinstalled. system restore on ME isn't reliable, i'd use something a little better. Dell sent along Norton with my PC and it has a ZIP recovery and my HP9900 has a backup feature. The restore points aren't really that useful in my opinion, even with other programs. The one problem i will say is that the scandisk and the defrag have never completely worked like they have with other OS. No matter how you try it, there's always something writing to the disk, changing its contents or even searching the disk that Defrag and Scandisk are constantly restarting. If you run Scandisk you have to wait until if gives you that 10 or more error and just tell it to ignore, then walk away or go to sleep for the night, wake up and see how its doing. The surface scan in Windows Me doesn't work at all for me, in 98/se it will but not well... but at least in 98/Se there was a way to use the DOS version of Scandisk surface scan... Only after shuttinsdown Explorer from TaskManager did i find Scandisk on standard... Dos isn't there anyways. The MY PICTURES is a neat idea, but the My musix folder, the one outside the MY DOCUMENTS doesn't work... i mean it's a folder and acts like one, no problems there... but all music is defaulted to My Documents\My Music ...? I don't have a problem with the Windows Media Format since i have all my own programs and really would never use a Windows program Like Media Player for really anything... WinAmp... PowerDVD... Adobe products... Quicktime... but never Realplayer... for some reason RealPlayer screws the ... out of my ME machine, so i never use it unless i like seeing the Blue screen of Death and troubleshooting some page fault or the Kernel error. I wouldn't suggest upgrading or really buying ME unless you just want to. If you have plenty of money and really don't care then hey go for it... the My Pictures folder and the Thumbnail View option are pretty nifty, and the homenetworking wizard works... kinda. One major problem is that ME is not a 98/third edition... it's more like WIN2000 for the home, watered down version and so many products are not ME compatible or ME stable. Some will even react violently to ME and end up deleting another program or waging war with the Options and TEMP folder. Goodluck.

I'm quite pleased with the load times and functionality of Windows ME. I have commend Microsoft for taking the boot time of this operating system and chopping it in half, however, that's little consolation when you end up rebooting twice as much! It's still a buggy program; some pieces of software really do a number on the memory management software. My advice: If your not familiar with the MSCONFIG command, and want to spend the time debugging your start-up profiles, then wait until the first service pack is released before buying this. All in all an okay improvement to the functionality and performance of Windows 98 SE, but by no means is it perfect. p.s. Additional warnings go out to MS OFFICE 2000, @PCDATA, ICQ 2000a, paid-to-surf users and Voodoo Banshee owners... If you fall into any of these categories, in my opinion, WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT SERVICE PACK RELEASE, unless of course, you want to debug it yourself. :)

I bought a brand new computer and it come with me installed on it and it has been a nightmare ever since. This system crashes all of the time or locks up and I am constantly turning it off at the surge strip because it has locked up and won't shut down. My husband and I bought some games to play and it locks up and won't even run the games. I have called to get technical support and they dont' have a clue and I have had it. Going to take it in and get xp installed and save my self the headache!
