Windows 98 is a fine operating system, as long as you take care of it. A couple of points to note: always keep current backups of your Windows system registry. If you DO have a crash, don't just get angry and ignore it... your system is telling you something! Restore your registry, because that crash was caused by something amiss in the registry that was obviously not wrong before.I also find that the people who complain about how unstable Windows 98 is are the kind of people who download all kinds of little programs from the internet, install them, and immediately uninstall them. This is BAD. Sure, Windows 98 has a couple of problems here and there (such as the fact that you need a third-party utility to sort your Programs menu properly), but I wouldn't use any other operating system that is available right now.
Rating: - Windows 98 is an excellent OS
If you can't get by comfortably with your PC using this operating system, then you probably need to take some classes. 98 SE is as solid an OS as you will see in the marketplace. Its plug and play is truly impressive, and overall it has very few problems, and fixes many oddities that cropped up with 98 1st edition and 95.Users of the Mac OS, unless they are blinded by Microsoft hate, will find windows 98 refreshing because, unlike every Mac OS made since 1990, it doesn't freeze every time you have more than two programs open. So load this baby up and get busy!
Rating: - Compared to Win 95, this is utopia!
Being an old time computer user, i.e., DOS, I must say that I was very impressed with win 98-second edition. Unlike its predecessor Windows 95, it does not shut down or have as many glitches. In fact, I could not see myself using another operating system since windows is so carefree. Why should I have to know my drivers and graphic cards, i.e., Linux? No, I want simplicity and ease of use and all of this I get with Windows 98. I cannot wait for Windows ME.
